Sports Massage
Sports massage as its name suggests is predominately used either before or after a sports event, but it can be very effectively used to loosen tight and problem areas affected by general wear and tear of every day life or scar tissue. It is in many ways very much like remedial massage as many of the movements are the same or very similar. Differences lie in the pressure and release work that is carried out during treatment. Sports massage uses a number of tests to asses pain free range of movement with a combination of massage and exercises to strengthen and release soft tissue (muscles and tendons) and to increase range of movement in joints. Compression techniques to spread the muscle fibre aiding increased circulation. Trigger point therapy and cross-fibre fictions are also used to release tight muscles.
Remedial / Holistic Massage
Massage is deceptively simple but powerful. It has been practised in one form or another for thousands of years. Today it is recognized increasingly as a powerful aid to the body's own healing mechanisms, promoting health and well-being. Massage has evolved from a combination of eastern and western tradition. Massage is a natural way of maintaining the vital human connection of touch. It also has many health benefits, a major application being in relaxing & relieving stress. In addition it is a powerful healing tool that enhances physical and emotional health, as it improves the circulation of nutrients to the body and encourages the body to heal itself. With this approach the whole person is treated, rather than the symptoms.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a treatment involving the application of essential oils with massage to assist the body's own natural healing process. It aims at treating specific health complaints and can act as a preventative measure against illness and stress. The treatment helps to relax and strengthen the nervous system, while stimulating the elimination of toxins. The oils also work on the immune system and have been found to strengthen and heal the body's energy centres, and to maintain vitality.
It is a truly holistic therapy bringing about good health by treating the body as a whole rather than treating a single part~ the physical body, mind and spirit of the person are all taken into account.
Essential oils are highly concentrated, fragrant, dynamic and volatile
essences extracted from plants, usually by distillation. Each oil has its own
properties, and the therapist will assess which oils will best suit your
requirements, ensuring an individual approach to each client. |
