Balance and and balance re-education is one of the specialised areas of rehabilitation at Physability.
Loss of muscular function through paralysis and/or dysfunction of the balance mechanisms (vestibular apparatus) through head injury or stroke make the job of staying upright very difficult. Through specific physical exercise, balance re-education enables clients to regain or improve control over balance. Therapists at the Centre address the problems of imbalance through a number of exercise modalities such as; Swiss ball therapy, balance boards, sit-fits and other individually designed exercises in order to help clients improve
The Swiss ball - for the
assessment and re-education The Swiss ball is used in physical therapy for assessment of movement dysfunction and for promotion of balance (dynamic stability). Our aim is to optimise global and local stabilising muscles, improving trunk strength (core stability) and limb strength where weakness is evident. In our opinion, the Swiss ball is an affective and fun method of assessment and exercise for correction of balance and muscular imbalance. |
